The fayoum
Le Fayoum
The Fayoum is a large painting – 10 meters in length – inspired by the painting of the Fayoum portraits.
The first time I saw the portraits published in a book on Egyptian antiquities, I was totally fascinated by the modernity of the paintings, which were painted in the Ptolemaic Period (332-330 BC). The reality of those portraits was so compelling.
La première fois que j’ai vu les portraits publiés dans un livre sur les antiquités égyptiennes, j’ai été totalement fasciné par la modernité des peintures, qui ont été peintes à l’époque ptolémaïque (332 – 330 avant JC). La réalité de ces portraits était si convaincante.

Our world today is « chaos » with the hope of seeing the birth of a light, a rebirth…
“So, in the begining was Chaos, and then the Earth in its vast bosom and the dark Tartarus in the depths of the vast earth, and then Love, the most beautiful of immortals, who bathes in its languor both gods and men, tames hearts and triumphs over the strongest wills. From Chaos were born Erebus and Dark Night. From Night, Ether and Day were born, fruits of love with Erebus. In turn, Gaia first begot her equal in greatness, the Starry Sky which was to cover the starry vault and serve as the eternal home of the Gods. Then she begot the High Mountains, retreats of the divine nymphs hidden in their happy valleys. Without the help of Love, she produced the Sea and the the furious waves that stir its surface.”

Notre monde est aujourd’hui “chaos“ avec l’espoir d’y voir naître une lumière, une renaissance…
« Donc, au commencement, fut Chaos, et puis la Terre au vaste sein et le Tartare sombre dans les profondeurs de la vaste terre, et puis Amour, le plus beau des Immortels, qui baigne de sa langueur et les dieux et les hommes, dompte les cœurs et triomphe des plus sages vouloirs. De Chaos naquirent l’Érèbe et la sombre Nuit. De la Nuit, l’Éther et le Jour naquirent, fruits des amours avec l’Érèbe. À son tour, Gaïa engendra d’abord son égal en grandeur, le Ciel étoilé qui devait la couvrir de sa voûte étoilée et servir de demeure éternelle aux Dieux. Puis elle engendra les hautes Montagnes, retraites des divines nymphes cachées dans leurs vallées heureuses. Sans l’aide d’Amour, elle produisit la Mer au sein stérile, aux flots furieux qui s’agitent. »
